Health Level 7 refers to the seventh layer of the OSI model which is application. HL7 is the ANSI standard for the exchange of data between healthcare software. This is what will allow one physician's EMR/EHR to exchange data with another physician's EMR/EHR. The end result being beneficial to both the phsyician and most importantly the patient.
